No proof, no conviction

Okay, so it's January 18th, 2012, have you purchased your copy of Jellyfish "Spilt Milk" yet?  No?  Okay, just make it a point to do so.  Anyway, I have been reading up on SOPA and it's possible effects on yours and my internet experience.  I don't want to be a SOPA violator.  If the speed limit isn't posted, and I'm going 35mph, I don't want a ticket because un-posted speed limits are 20mph.  I just don't...and I don't want a warning from a government agency either, because police just like the tax man and all the other suits in this world are the system.

I don't want in.  Forgive me if I'm simplistic.  I would love for a (Free) space for people to co-op their music collection and to make it easy enough for my 80 year old father to use.  But no, the way laws are written, it's one and done.

Back in the 1980's the record labels fought hard to not allow Maxell and TDK to sell black cassettes.  It then fought hard to keep away blank CD's...because the copy would be "perfect". (Seems to be a nod to the point that records recorded to tape were far from perfect)  Anyway, these were all defeated.  SOPA, appears to be yet another law that keeps the distribution of ALL media held to the label, as it pleases, both audio and video.

Would you know of Soundgarden if it wasn't for Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Nirvana?  Possibly, but which band "made it" last?  Soundgarden.  Which came out with a recording first on a major label?  Yep, Soundgarden.  Who has a terrible track record promoting their own artists?  A&M.  Who was Soundgarden signed to?  A&M.  If you aren't a hardcore music fan, you probably know nothing about labels, if you are me or someone like me, you know.If you are a fan of pop and soul, A&M was your label, if you liked Extreme or Soundgarden in the late1980's, you didn't like A&M.  They didn't appear to "push" their own.  Any fan of music knows that

Well, let's go back to that by making YouTube or any social media site clear all of the videos of material. Imagine 100,000 workers watching all posts then determining what is a violation...They won't...they'll create an algorithm and it will measure whether or not the material you use has been produced elsewhere then it will automatically remove it.  Great.

Look, I am not a huge fan of theft, but remind me of how many of you work for a record label.  Then, tell me exactly how many of you "leaked" material from a recording session by: Weezer, Slipknot, Lil Wayne, Foo Fighters...they've all had material out on __________ before the label released the album.  This is the new way to "market"...don't believe it?  Well: ______________________________________________________________ which is how I could get a record review done as the album was coming out.  I have no connections.  Look, people want to start their cottage industries on the internet, without any ability "link" material that is copyrighted and it's been on youtube for two f'n years and TiVo makes a program that allows you to stream all of your recorded content to your computer!!!

And now you know.
